17 DAYS SOUTH AFRICA with 14 night stays

from 16th JAN til 01st FEB 2015

We're travelling on a small tour group of 6 to 10 people through the CAPE REGION – the LITTLE- and the GREAT KAROO - ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK and along the coastline of the Indian Ocean and the GARDEN ROUTE back to the Cape.

The entire tour takes exclusively through year-round malaria-free areas!

DAY 1 - Departure from overseas.

Pick up at the airport early morning and transfer to the hotel. 2 nights accommo- dation with breakfast. We'll visit the Botanical Garden on Paarl Mountain with its exotic plants, and the university town of Stellenbosch.

DAY 3 -
Cellar tour and wine tasting in one of the area's famous wineries. While we are driving pass routes over the surrounding moun- tains, we visit some of the vineyards of the Cape wine region. Cellar tour and wine tasting are included in the tour price.

DAY 4 - We cross over the Du Toit's Pass to the Breede River Valley towards Montagu, visiting wine-growing places like Robertson and Ashton and traveling along the world famous biker route R62 through the Little Karoo and further to the ostrich capital of Oudtshoorn. 1x overnight stay including breakfast in a luxury lodge in Oudtshoorn. Cellar tours and wine tastings are included in the tour price, as well as the tour at Highgate Ostrich Farm.

5 - After breakfast we visit an ostrich farm and continue to Kango Wildlife Ranch, which is part of a global project for the protection and conservation of wild cheetahs. From there we continue through the gorges of Schoemans- poort to the world famous Cango Caves and the Swartberg Pass route, with its magnificent views of the Great Karoo. We stop for a short break at the historic town of Prince Albert, which is famous for its Cape Dutch gable architecture and arrive in the late afternoon in the KAROO NATIONAL PARK.

We go on trips in our own vehicle as well as we take part in a night game drive with game rangers of the national park. With a little bit of good luck we will see some of the nocturnal inhabitants of the Karoo which we barely get to face during daytime – such as aardvark, brown hyena, caracal or leopards. 1x overnight stay including breakfast in the Karoo SANParks- CAMP. The National Park fees and the night game drive are included with the tour price.

DAY 6 - Early morning we take a game drive into the National Park, which takes us across the Klipspringer Pass into the Doornhoek River valley. When we are back we’ll have breakfast at the camp restaurant and after we drive through the Karoo landscape towards Graaf-Reinet, which is surrounded by the CAMDEBOO NATIONAL PARK and the primeval mountain landscape of the Valley of Desolation with its hiking trails and many magnificent viewpoints. 1x overnight stay with breakfast in the
AA’QTANSISI GUEST HOUSE / earlier Camdeboo Manor. The National Park fees are included in the tour price.

7 - Passing the landscape on our way to the ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK we’ll observe how the dry steppe climate of the Karoo transforms mile by mile into the evergreen coastal climate of the Indian Ocean. The Addo National Park is still under construction and will be expanded from the Zuurberg Mountains in the north to Indian Ocean in the south. We stay for two nights in the cottages of the ADDO MAIN CAMP – including breakfast.

19 days - Cape Town - Karoo - Adoo Elephant National Park - Garden Route

In the Addo National Park we do not find those antelope species which are specialized in drylands – like oryx (Gemsbok) and springbok. Beside big game like elephants, rhinoceros, african buffalos and the buchell’s zebra, in this region occur antelope species such as kudu, red hartebeest, blue wildebeest, bushbuck, duikers and predators as lions, spotted hyenas, jackals, caracals, honey badger and leopards (rare). But Addo is also interesting for bird watchers: secretary bird, blue crane, grey

crowned crane, short-toed snake eagle, bokmakierie, red bishop... etc. – to name only a few. The conservation fee for the Addo National Park and the game drive with the national park rangers are incuded in the tour price.
